Truong Duy Nhat

On March 4, 2014, the Da Nang People’s Court sentenced Truong Duy Nhat, 50, to two years in prison on charges of “abusing democratic freedoms” under article 258 of the Penal Code. Since 2011 Truong Duy Nhat has published a blog called Mot goc nhin khac  (“A Different Point of View”). He previously worked as a journalist with the Vietnamese state media: from 1987-1995 with the Police Newspaper in Quang Nam-Da Nang, and from 1995-2011 with Dai Doan Ket (Great Unity) newspaper. He was arrested in May 2013 after an initial police investigation concluded that he had published articles on his blog with “misleading content” that “distorted propaganda lines and the policies of the party and state”, and “defamed the party leadership”.

A copy of Truong Duy Nhat's official indictment is available online.  Nhat’s family only received a copy of the seven-page indictment a few days before his trial, though it was dated December 17 of last year, according to RFA.
